About Organization
Meals on Wheels Central Texas seeks to nourish and enrich the lives of the homebound and other people in need through programs that promote dignity and independent living. Meals on Wheels Central Texas is one of the largest meal-delivery organizations in the state, distributing 3,000 meals each business day to homebound older adults and people with disabilities.
Meals on Wheels Central Texas is honored to serve older adults and adults living with disabilities in the Greater Austin area. Through our meal programs and other services, we help nearly 5,000 Central Texans live independently so they can age in place in their homes.
Our programs are provided free of charge and are designed to nourish and enrich the lives of the people we serve, allowing them to live at home with dignity and independence. Today, Meals on Wheels Central Texas provides service to nearly 5,000 persons in need with the help of more than 8,000 volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with personal care, which may include bathroom functions, bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating.
- Following a prescribed healthcare plan, may include assisting with exercise and administering medication.
- Ensuring the client’s home is organized according to their needs and that safety measures are in place. You may also be expected to assist with some light housework.
- Providing emotional support and encouragement to perform necessary tasks.
- Providing mobility assistance may be required, for example helping the client in and out of bed, a chair, or a wheelchair.
- Transporting or escorting the client to medical and other appointments.
- Monitoring and reporting changes in health, behavior, and needs.
- Personal Care. It’s not uncommon for elderly patients to struggle with day-to-day tasks.
- Meal Planning and Food Preparation.
Skills & Requirements
- Further education may be beneficial.
- Job experience and CPR training may be necessary.
- A driver’s license may be strongly desired.
