Overview

Our mission

We’re making Africa the first cashless continent.

In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That’s for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We’re solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don’t always work, you can still send money with Wave. In November 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. In 2019, we expanded to Cote d’Ivoire. Now, we have millions of users and are growing fast. Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. And that’s where you come in….

How you’ll help us achieve it

We’re looking for a Data Analyst focused on Experimentation and Causal Inference for our User Growth team. In this role you will conduct data analysis and run experiments in collaboration with product and operational teams to improve our product and customer experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Be embedded closely with our operations and product teams: deriving insights from customer, merchant and agent data, visualizing data, and working with operations leads and product managers to improve user and business outcomes.
  • Navigate large data sets to identify growth drivers and generate testable hypotheses.
  • Design, develop, implement, and analyze experiments related to product features and operational processes.
  • Take ownership of the analytics process – from project scoping and design through communicating findings to stakeholders.
  • Support building up our data infrastructure together with our engineering team.

Key details

  • You can work remotely from anywhere (between UTC -5 and +4) with reliable Internet access
  • Subsidized health insurance for you and your dependents and retirement contributions (both vary from country to country).
  • 6 months fully paid parental leave and subsidized fertility assistance.
  • Unlimited vacation with a 20-day minimum requirement.
  • $10,000 annual charitable donation matching.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree or Masters’s in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Applied Psychology, or a related discipline.
    • 3+ years experience as a data analyst or similar role.
    • Demonstrated experience running A/B tests and experiments and conducting causal inference. Experience with field experiments is a plus.
    • Experience collaborating with and supporting cross-functional teams on data analysis and execution of experiments.
  • Experimentation and Causal Inference:
    • Working knowledge of econometrics and statistics.
    • Expertise in A/B testing and experimental design (sampling, randomisation, stratification, clustered designs).
    • Knowledge of non-experimental causal inference methodologies, such as propensity score matching, difference-in-difference, or instrumental variable analysis.
  • Technical skills
    • Strong SQL skills with expertise in querying, manipulating and analyzing data.
    • Proficiency in statistical analysis, data cleaning and preparation and data manipulation in Python.
    • Familiarity with data visualisation libraries.

Fluent in English, French is a plus.

You might be a good fit if you

  • Are proficient in SQL and Python.
  • Have a deep understanding of experimental methods and causal analysis.
  • Are a self-starter that excels at exploring problems and collaborating closely with operations teams to drive growth through data.
  • Like to ask questions of data and just have to find out the answers.

Our team

  • We have a rapidly growing in-country team in Senegal, Côte D’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Gambia, and Uganda, plus remote team members spread across the world. We’re deeply passionate about our mission of bringing radically affordable financial services to the people who need them most.
  • We foster autonomy for our employees. You’ll own your own projects at every stage, from understanding the problem to monitoring your solution in production.
  • We’re backed by world-class investors including Founders Fund, Sequoia Heritage, Stripe, Ribbit Capital, Y Combinator and Partech Africa.
