Role Description:

We are seeking a General Counsel to join our senior executive team and play a pivotal role in shaping the legal function of our global business. As General Counsel, you will be responsible for scaling and leading our legal capability, providing strategic legal advice, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements across every aspect of the ShipBob entity. Using your expertise in the E-commerce and Supply Chain/Logistics industries, you will develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative, proactive, business-centric ways and you will build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and scale the legal function, developing strategies and initiatives that support the company’s global growth objectives and align with our core values.
  • Collaborate with other executive leaders and cross-functional teams to assess and address legal implications of new business initiatives, partnerships, and acquisitions.
  • Provide strategic and day to day legal guidance and support to various departments, including executive leadership, sales and marketing, operations, human resources, and finance.
  • Manage and oversee all legal matters, including contracts, intellectual property, compliance, data privacy, employment law, litigation, and risk management.
  • Proactively identify legal risks and implement effective measures to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations across global jurisdictions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external counsel, regulatory bodies, and relevant stakeholders including the board.
  • Empower the business to grow commercially through growth related legal activities that have a commercial impact.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing legal team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, legal developments, and best practices to ensure the company’s legal function remains innovative and effective.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • 15+ years of experience practicing law, with a focus on corporate, commercial, and/or technology law, preferably within a global ecommerce business environment.
  • Expertise in the Supply Chain/Logistics industry strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing legal teams and functions, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and inclusion.
  • Significant experience in corporate securities and operating as a public company.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant global legal frameworks, regulations, and compliance requirements in the US, EU, India, and Australia.
  • Successfully led reporting and strategy for Environmental, Social, and Governance law.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice and partnering with executive leadership and the board to drive business outcomes.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and navigate complex legal issues.
  • Deep knowledge of the ecommerce and logistics industry preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity and ethics, with a commitment to upholding the highest professional standards.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment and adapt to changing priorities.
