Overview

CrossFit is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team remotely. The successful candidate will play a critical role in adopting and utilizing state-of-the-art technology to design, develop, and deliver infrastructure across our organization, while ensuring efficiency, reliability, security, and scalability. As a key member of our DevOps team, you will work closely with application developers to automate and optimize all stages of the DevOps pipeline – from development, build, and testing to release, deployment, and monitoring. Success in the role will be measured by the ongoing efficiency and productivity gains that you and your team deliver as well as the product improvements that result from these efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to the successful execution of the company’s roadmap by efficiently migrating to industry-leading cybersecurity practices, CI/CD processes (including Infrastructure as Code), comprehensive observability, and automated testing strategies.
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement of our AWS production environment, focusing on enhancing security, reliability, scalability, reproducibility, and maintainability across the infrastructure.
  • Assist in our transition from AMI and EC2 management to container-based solutions, ensuring a  consistent and seamless environment for development, testing and deployment across the organization
  • Facilitate an effective transition to Infrastructure as Code principles throughout our AWS deployment landscape, utilizing tools such as  Terraform and Ansible to establish reproducible environments across multiple regions and AWS accounts
  • Lead our efforts in achieving the overarching objective of implementing environment orchestration using Kubernetes, optimizing resource management and scalability throughout the organization
  • Consolidate our diverse build and deployment processes by migrating to standardized GitHub Actions, enabling consistent and efficient build, test and delivery pipelines across the organization
  • Stay informed on the latest in DevOps, proactively incorporating industry  best practices into the company’s processes for ongoing refinement and continuous improvement
  • Select, coordinate, cultivate, and maintain relationships with both vendors and open source communities, fostering productive partnerships to support ongoing development and innovation
  • Take ownership of  the commercial justification for adopting new technologies by presenting clearly defined and quantifiable value propositions, ensuring a strategic approach to technological advancements within the organization

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
  • Solid understanding and experience in implementing cybersecurity measures for cloud deployments, along with familiarity with secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles to ensure robust and resilient infrastructure
  • Proficiency in the core principles  of DevOps, including Infrastructure as Code, serverless computing, scripting languages (like Python), AWS, GitHub Actions, containerization, to facilitate seamless and efficient development and deployment processes
  • An understanding of how to effectively implement application security and compliance testing as early in the SDLC as possible
  • Deep familiarity with Terraform and a proven track record of  converting complex AWS infrastructure implementations into IaC-based solutions
  • A passion and demonstrated success in delivering enormous value through the modernization of DevOps processes
  • Working knowledge of enterprise data center technologies, including storage platforms, network switching, and security infrastructure in a cloud environment
  • Comprehensive understanding of microservices architecture and application development methodologies
  • Familiarity with a broad portfolio of AWS infrastructure tools (ECS, S3, EC2, RDS, CloudFront, API Gateway, Lambda, etc) and experience with cloud infrastructure management and automation technologies
  • Proven expertise in maintaining and ensuring the stability of an infrastructure while simultaneously incorporating new features
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both Linux system and network administration, allowing for effective management and optimization of our infrastructure
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or similar technologies
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design and implementation choices
  • Familiarity with a diverse range of open-source technologies and tools
  • Comfortable with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment processes, demonstrating the flexibility needed to support agile development and rapid iteration
  • Comprehensive knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages, such as Python and Bash
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to work closely with our exceptional tech and product teams and the larger CrossFit organization
  • Reliable and responsible, with the ability to efficiently manage tasks and meet deadlines, ensuring timely project completion and smooth operations

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience and deep exposure to technical architecture, cybersecurity, application development, and operations
  • AWS DevOps Certification is preferred but not required.
