The Role

The Senior Broker is responsible for providing underwriting and procedural support to front-line staff, identifying trends and training opportunities, and providing management with feedback. This role will support the HCC Senior Broker team for a 6-month temporary assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a point-person for quoting, underwriting, and procedural questions. Mentor and coach staff around specific underwriting concepts as well as general insurance principles.
  • Track questions, identify trends and training gaps, and provide feedback to management in order to assess and evaluate binding authority.
  • Handle underwriting referrals from brokers and insurance companies demonstrating strong decision-making and analytical skills and sound underwriting judgment.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all workflows, and insurers’ underwriting guidelines and manuals.
  • Document all details of requests and conversations with inappropriate policy management systems using applicable templates.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable portals, customer relationship management systems, and policy management systems
  • Build rapport and strong working relationships with frontline staff and team leaders and act as a liaison with company underwriters.
  • Respond favorably to all coaching and training provided, make use of self-coaching tools where available, and actively participate in your Employee Quarterly Check-Ins with your Manager.
  • Manage daily workload in accordance with company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Requirements

  • Appropriate insurance license in good standing.
  • Experience as a Broker.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Management experience is an asset.
  • Availability to work various shifts and days of the week as required to support team members.
  • Ability to handle fluctuating work volumes in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
